The Irish forum is one of the only forums that benefits from full time police representation in the form of An Garda Siochana, the national police force which works collaboratively with the forum on some of the more complex law enforcement issues and those that are specific to the Republic of Ireland, which is still part of the EU. Comprising both pure Irish and UK businesses with representation in the Republic, the forum has been instrumental in raising issues including GDPR and data protection challenges as interpreted by the Irish Courts and the prominence of defamation of character claims that are unique to the island of Ireland and have been the focus of a number of the Irish forum’s specific lobbying activities with the Data Commissioner and the Ministry of Justice over the matter of controlling persistent shop thieves.
